Namwah or Rajapuri here?
This is supposed to be Namwah, the regular variety. It has produced fruit when the pseudostem was at 7 foot, but more often at around 10 foot ps, but also can fruit even higher as seen in the picture.
I am beginning to doubt that it is Namwah and believe it is more like Rajapuri. I read that Rajapuri has wine coloring on the pseudostem, mine has some rosy coloring on it also. Well, the other details are pretty ambiguous for me, I cant tell the fruit from Rajapuri photos or this supposed Namwah apart, they both retain the flower part thingy on the fruit and have that little knob too. This Namwah also has fruit that has that grayish powdery stuff on it like in the pictures. What do you guys think? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yep, flowering already in April here in So Cal. |
Re: Namwah or Rajapuri here?
Thanks for the pics, I have no experience with Raja or Namwah YET! But a flower in April is a good thing. Mat looks great, Congrats. :bananas_b

Thanks. This will help me figure out what banana to purchase next since I can rule out what I already have. :0519: Buzzwinder, this group was planted in the spring or summer of '06 (brought along a little division from old house). So the clump seen there is almost 3 years worth of growth. Have not fertilized or cared for it much, but water and trim the leaf stalks and remove fruited pseudostems. Harvested fruit 3 times already. :) And I am sure the other 2 or 3 ps might produce fruit later on this year also. |
Re: Namwah or Rajapuri here?
My raja puri has much wider leaves. I'd say it's something else.

Re: Namwah or Rajapuri here?
My Raja is very short almost like dwarf variety, although I thought Namwah was short plant as well? My Namwah is "pearl" but leaves are mostly total green, no streaks of white.

Re: Namwah or Rajapuri here?
I agree, too tall and wrong leaves for Raja Puri.

Namwah usually refers to this somewhat tall variety (some people call it Kluay Namwah though). And Dwarf Namwah refers to the dwarf version which came after the original Namwah. And Namwah Pearl is a form of the dwarf variety (some mutant from the lab I read). |
