Re: Namwah are Blue Java
While my personal plants haven't fruited yet I found this online The Blue Java are supposed to have 'knuckles' in the hands while the Namwa does not Here's the video that shows the difference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjUFw_qQ0po |

Re: Namwah are Blue Java
I ordered internet blue javas two years ago and two of them recently fruited as a Namwah. The USDA-TARS book matches them as a Pisang Awak type "Fougamou 1."
Some people get Namwah, and some people get Orinoco types. I've even gotten a Gros Michel-Looking banana as "blue java." The tissue culture system is a mess. But, we still have bananas. |

Re: Namwah are Blue Java
One thing about Green Earth is that Ted is a really nice guy and is totally stand up. I had a problem with a Basjoo and he sent me another one out no questions asked. That one is taking off rather nicely. As for the wrong plant thing from what I have learned this year is that hardly any of the tissue culture nurseries are actually sending out Blue Javas. I don't really think it's totally their fault although I'm not sure why they all continue to do it knowing this.

Re: Namwah are Blue Java
I know one thing Namwah is a good eating banana compared to store bought crap. If someone doesn't actually say an Ice cream is a better eating Banana you probably better off with the namwah than something that just has ice cream texture. Cavendish suk, but the hybrids are pretty good. I like the SH-3640, and the FHIA-02. I can wait till the peels split to eat manzano too.. cuz its the only time they taste good, and I find them to be pretty awesome.
