Thanks

Where did you get it? That might help...

Hi JP,

I got the banana from another person who grew it from seed.
He had velutina, sikkimensis, and rubinea... (maybe some others)

This plant took months to germinate so the actual source is a mystery. Since the pot was 'reused' until something grew.... :03:

Sorry, thats all I know...

Could it be musa maurelli?

Maurelli was my first thought. Only thing that makes me wonder is mine has a very rough, coarse pseudostem. Your plant looks like it is fairly young witch makes it more difficult. I am certainly no expert. I'll try and post a pic later.

The plant is a Musa of some type, but not sure what. 'Maurelii' is a cultivar of Ensete ventricosum, and not at all this plant. Its not M. velutina or M. sikkimensis. It has some elements of M. rubinea, though kinda looks like a hybrid perhaps, potentially the hybrid 'Vino Tinto', but aside from that plant being somewhat mysterious and to my knowledge, rare, I don't know that you could really get seeds of it anyways. Interesting plant, but we would really need it to flower and fruit for a proper ID.

I'd stick to Gabe's opinion on that one. He has way more experience...

Thanks Gabe and JP. I'll update this thread or start a new one if I get a flower later this summer...

I'm just glad to know that this is most likely a 'small' banana plant. I was mainly hoping it wasn't a 20' tall variety! So I'm glad that doesn't seem to be the case.
