Re: Musa balbisiana colla or Musa ornata?
That is Musa ornata. Sometimes, in greenhouses they get very large due to having nice growing conditions and also stretching out due to lower light levels.

Yeah, looks like M. ornata 'Lavender' to me. I must say that I've never seen an ornata get that large though! Cool!

Re: Musa balbisiana colla or Musa ornata?
I found a giant mat of Ornata that were that big . This was last year . A friends aunt told me that she had really tall bananas that made fruit every year and I assumed that they must be an edible type . I drove almost an hour away to see them and snag some pups but found Ornata instead .They were very impressive though, much taller even than the eaves of the house.

I used to grow Standard Lavender and it would regularly get over 9 feet.

Re: Musa balbisiana colla or Musa ornata?
I too at once have solved, that it Musa ornata, only its sizes left doubt in it. I never saw, that ornata were such huge. At one, with a flower, on a photo 8, stem in height more than 5 meters! Fairly to admit, I have been very surprised, having seen it. Will have to go to institute and to tell to employees, that they all this time were mistaken. Though it seems to me, that they to me will not believe.

Recently was in institute. In the name of a banana they at themselves have corrected a mistake. As to me have presented one adult plant with puppies. I shall try to grow up at myself the same big banana, as at them in greenhouses. I have presented them small Musa acuminata and Musa sikkimensis.
