Mislabeled Musa in Bot. Garden
This is obviously not M. basjoo, but what else could it be? Maybe balbisiana or yunnanensis? It stays outside over winter, with a good protection.

Re: Mislabeled Musa in Bot. Garden
Hi,
Based on my observations of hundreds of M.yunnanensis plants with its varieties from southern Yunnan to north Yunnan up to elevation 2250 meters the plant in the pictures are definitely Musa yunnanensis not a M. basjoo. There is no doubt about it. Markku. |

Re: Mislabeled Musa in Bot. Garden
Hi Linda,
It is very common that one can see mislabelled bananas in botanical gardens. It is due to lack of knowledge to identify the wild banana species. I have faced this phenonema all over the world during the past decades. Markku. |
