Default Mislabeled bananas from Aloha Tropicals

I ordered three bananas from Aloha Tropicals about 18 months ago.
Not one is what I ordered. They took over a month to ship and even though I knew they were not what I ordered when they arrived, the owner of Aloha Tropicals refused to refund. Anyway - I would appreciate thoughts on ID of the plants.

First was sold to me as Pitogo - maybe mysore?

90% of mine from AT were wrong. No response, no refund. Don't know how he stays in business.

Mysore yeah, Thai black seems a good guess, it's not an Ele Ele for sure, and the third could be Hua Moa or African Rhino Horn, probably not Hua Moa.

Yeah, that looks just like my Thai Black, I had come across that website, I am glad I did not order from him after all.

Thanks Rob - and thank you for your help last year when they first arrived.

Aloha Tropicals has an F rating on the BBB website and their Yelp reviews are equally dismal. I think he stays in business because he has things listed which aren't easily available other places. I ordered because he had Popoulu listed. Thankful for this forum - I was able to obtain pups of Hua Moa and Pitogo from another great forum member. Lesson learned.

Many may think I'm nutty but I refuse to spend much on pups because I don't trust the names local sellers throw down. I'm collecting free or nearly free mysteries and having a blast doing it; I'm not a banana eater at heart (perhaps I'll find one that changes my mind?) but I do love the beauty of the plant. I do know my mysteries are not DCs because I bought one cheap just for comparison. Not a splotch on any of my others.

I purchased two plants from them too. Red Kru and Praying Hands. I'm not sure I got what I ordered either. The plant that was sold to you as Hua Moa looks like my Fake Red Kru. I'm still waiting for my plants to bloom, but your Fake Hua Moa sure looks like my Fake Red Kru.

That's what my fake Red Kru from them looked like too. But it also looks like the African Rhino Horn I got from them. Still hasn't fruited so I don't know for sure, but I think ARH is a good guess for the fake Kru.

That is why i don't buy Banana plants from Nursery's any more, I rather buy them from members who are growing them and have harvested & verified the fruit..

The Thai Black looks nice though..

Celeste & Craig, I agree with Rob the two with red both look like ARH. After visiting your awesome Sarasota garden I looked at some of our ARH mattes. We have one water sucker with the same red mottling on the leaves (as the smaller unknown from Aloha). So....you may now have three ARH plants:-)

Definitely Thai Black..check the video:

This is my rhino horn from Wellsprings. Not sure how accurate they are, but I've had good luck with other plants from them. It does look like your Hua Moa.

I agree with Ed. I would much rather trade, or buy my banana plants with other members. It takes way to long to get the banana plant to flower in the first place. Then to find out it's not what you thought it was. And then! How many pups did you already give away with the wrong name? It makes a mess. So when I get plants, I want to know it is the real deal. When I give away pups, they are the real deal. Maybe you would have to pay more for a veried pup over a massed produced tissue culture, but I am ok with that.

That doesn't happen here. Sure, I found some hobbiest growing bananas in my area, and even connected with a few. But haven't been able to make the trades.
So mostly my plants have to be shipped in. And I am ok with that as long as I get the plants that I ordered. Whish I had that member close by that had the plants I am looking for. I am happy for you, even a little jealous.
