Re: Mahoi
I don't have measurements, but I've noticed on mine that the leaves seem much thicker and more rigid than any others I have. I have a couple and they're both that way.

Re: Mahoi
Wow, never even thought of measuring leaf thickness. I had a Mahoi two years ago, and its leaves were bigger than my Namwah, but, I didn't have others around to also compare with.

Re: Mahoi
Just thought I'd share a few pics of my furthest along Double Mahoi. My first generation died without flowering, but the one pictured is its pup. Several months ago it started being very strange with oddly shaped new leaves. Then it started sporting 2 cigar leaves, and the 2-in-1 pseudostem became obvious. For me, it is one of my slowest growing varieties, but it keeps going and the leaves are big, thick, and green.

Re: Mahoi
I heard only Puerto Rican royalty were allowed to own the variegated Mhoi. That is a very valuable plant.

Re: Mahoi
Hey thats a good looking bunch.. Your were whining about its being a poo poo plant. Now I see all those great looking fruits :c). Ha ha some of the "doubles" can be pretty whimpy . I got one pup from last year and I keep telling myself. Dig it up. But one more year. Before I do that. If I remove it Im replacing with a dwarf PR plantain. Im gonna get some azomite and give that a go too . I know it will help.might even use your grass clipping chamber also. Today my neighbour tossed out his trash can. I went right to it and now all I need is to mow for the green.

Re: Mahoi
Yes CER on those doubles is a problem. Mine last year had about 15% CER. But still eatable and were better than store bought. A friend of mine went to Going Bananas in Homestead and bought me the doubles as a gift. I would have picked something completly different had it been me spending my money ... Ive had Williams here in the past. For me they grew just OK I found Cavendish grow like weeds and do much better.. But thats here in my back yard. Other people seem to want exotic types of banana. Im just looking to grow the easy ones and from time to time plant some different varieties . Your postings here are always informative and helpful coming from an experenced grower..
