Re: Little banana need her own ID
It is to young for a proper ID but seems like a Sikkimensis sport.

Re: Little banana need her own ID
In my opinion it is Sikkimensis, but this one is to different than other, because she is much taller, and pseudostem is so thin.

Yohanan,
How did you come by this plant? Was it a seedling? Thanks, shannon shannon.di.corse@gmail.com |
Re: Little banana need her own ID
Shannon,
I bought some seeds of Musa sikkimensis from internet. So this plant is from seed. But when I saw how she look after a few days, I saw that she is much different than other plants from same package. So, first I was thinking maybe seller made mistake and put one seed of acuminata or someone else bananas. |
Re: Little banana need her own ID
Yohanan,
I have a seedling just like that;it was from a batch of open pollinated Musa acuminata malaccensis that might have had genetic admixture with two "acuminata" accessions from Assam, India more than 6 decades ago. It looks just like your plant - including the undulant leaf margins; undersurface colouration; and I suspect the peculiarities of leaf venation. It came as a complete surprise to me! The other seedlings were mostly typical. Not at all this divergent! I'll get photos when next I visit my seedling gardens next week. Maybe you could keep me in the loop about your seedling's development? It would be very interesting to compare notes. shannon shannon.di.corse@gmail.com |
