Lakatan?
I think this one was supposed to be Lakatan, but I can't be sure. It is a dwarf in any case. Any ideas? Thanks.
I tried posting three pictures, but only one is showing up for some reason. |

Re: Lakatan?
The color of the flower is beautiful. I also have a plant that supposed to be laktan or lactan. But I do not know. Mine does not look like a dwarf.
What is the difference between laktan and lactan? I heard one of them from jamica and the other one is from philipines. Any way your dwarf banana plant is very interesting. |

Re: Lakatan?
Yeah...I don't think it's Lakatan either. The bud color is wrong.

Re: Lakatan?
Thanks, everyone, for the help.
Thanks, Snookie. Yes, the chickens love to scratch at my bananas and love to eat the pups too! They would probably eat the whole mat if I didn't have them protected with some wire. I sweep the chicken poop towards the mats, and so I'm sure it helps a bit with some nutrients. |

Re: Lakatan?
I stopped by Clare's house today (thanks for the bananas, flowers, eggs, etc.!) and would say it was at least 4' tall. Still a very compact, good looking plant.

Hi Mark! It was fun seeing you yesterday as it always is. Thank you also for the egg cartons and cucumbers and banana identification. Hope to see you again soon.

Re: Lakatan?
When I saw this the other day I was thinking 'California Gold' given the short height at which it is flowering and Gabe's vote for DO may be correct considering many people think CG is just a hardier version of DO. I know my CG has flowered at about 3-4' of pstem height before (see my gallery for pics). It looks a lot like my CG as well.

Re: Lakatan?
Based on the Dwarf Orinoco I have that is waaaaay too fat to be one. Looks more like a Dwarf Cav to me. But the pstem doesn't quite seem big/thick enough to be a DC.

Re: Lakatan?
Thanks for the help, Everyone. I have three mats of this flowering now at all the same height. I do have DC, but the bananas are much thinner and longer on the DC. This banana has very angular fruit. I have a small bunch that should be ripe anyday now, and I'll post when I harvest it.

Here are some more photos of the fruit:
Dwarf Orinoco seems to be the consensus. Thanks, All. |

Re: Lakatan?
Tommy, there's a good chance your "DO" is a regular O, which is more slender. Mine was. Clare's plant is DO or something extremely closely related. Her plant is not Dwarf Cav, which has open petioles (amongst other traits), because it has closed petioles.
