Re: Ladyfinger type?
Aloha Cassie (from our Island ... to yours)
There are many banana varieties "referred to" as Lady Finger, mostly because of the finger size. However, underdeveloped (not enough food and/or lacking adequate water) can result in smaller sized fingers. Yet, there is a cultivar (I do not know the botanical name) that is generally considered the usually referred to Lady Finger. It reaches 12'-15' at maturity. You'll just to have to wait and see ... Re: Ladyfinger type?
Thanks Marvin - I have an actual lady finger that I am waiting to fruit - but this plant is huge both in the bud and plant. Lots of suspense waiting to see how it developes - interestingly the leaves seem to have a gold margin to them which none of my others have. Is this significant? who knows!

Re: Ladyfinger type?
Orinoco female flowers have more purple in them, feel good about ruling that out.
I posted some closeups of the flowers of the ladyfinger I was growing a few years ago here: Ladyfinger blooming pics Whatever you have, they're probably gonna be good

Re: Ladyfinger type?
Hey Jarred - you are so kind!!
Now that I have the original ice cream/blue java in flower again, as well as this newcomer -they look the same so perhaps I have sourced one locally!! They have the same gold-rimmed leaves. Another monster bunch - so far 15 hands of 18 fingers - and counting. Sheesh! must be an ice cream - nothing else does so well |
