So we are back to unidentified?

Can you suggest a specific variety of Pome?

We were discussing Mysore earlier and decided it was not that because of the colour of the leaf stem, however I can see a few images online that show green leaf stems, for example this one, which has the bananas.org watermark:

The photo in that link is not 'Mysore', looks like a Silk.

Cannot point to a specific variety, even though bananas are clonal, they can be quite fluid actually, and IDing it as a Pome is as close as you are going to get in my opinion. Like I said, if you think it really merits being somewhat different, it can be a "new" variety. Basically every new cultivar known (excluding hybrids from breeding programs) started out as some random plant in someones garden that someone thought was better or different from other ones.

Do you have any photos of the male bud? If you really want a proper ID for any banana, you should leave the male bud on as it has a lot of information in it.

They look fine to be Pome to me. If it was Silk, I would expect much rounder fruit, not angular as seen here, and normally a bit of red on the petioles, and the female bud not so imbricated, or normally none at all.

I'll leave the knob on and get some photos of the male flowers. I have always chopped them off so not sure what to expect. If it is a new variety can I name it after myself? Either that, or something like cheese and onion banana.

For sure not a Mysore!

I agree with Gabe. I was thinking a Pome type. Now with the new pics and angle of the bunch I agree. Pome..

I have about 5 different pome clones. From dwarf/medium/tall. 2 of mine are from agristarts and one has messy bracts and male flowers stay. The other is clean. So maybe pome types mutate i go off-types fairly easy!

One of my others was from India and it has half and half! They all taste similar and have that amazing “pome” taste that I love! They are also cold hardy and grow very good here!

The only way I can tell pome from silk is the fruit shape and the male flowers. The pome flowers are “flat” on the ends and a darker purple. The silk have a totally different look at the tips of the male fingers. They also are a lighter pinkish-purple!

Not an expert description but it’s the differences I notice just comparing mine.

Some male flowers. It is suffering a bit from the cold and something has been eating the flowers.

Should I chop the knob off yet, or is there more interesting bits to come?
