Default jamaican red dwarf possibly?

Hi people,

A friend of mine gave me this small banana plant. From doing a bit of research on the net i am leaning towards jamaican red dwarf as the leaves are not a mixture of red and green, the only red part is the stem and core structure of the leaf. If it is a jamaican red dwarf are these bananas edible?

Thank you for your help.

It looks rather like an Ensete ventricosum, but its hard to tell. Do you know where your friend got it? Also, if you can get a good photo of a whole leaf and a good photo of the entire plant, it will be easier to see.
