Default It's all green and from Mexico, thats all I know...

Hi everyone,
Years ago, our neighbors brought back some banana plants from Mexico and gave us one. Since my mom loves banana plants, we planted it and never did anything with it. In our zone 9, every year it would pretty much die all the way down, and then grow a few feet back each year before winter again. Last winter we decided to actually protect it, so this summer it's just been growing like crazy about 4.5 feet tall, and already has 4 pups. Our neighbors had them planted along our fence, and they never really got too much taller than the fence. I'm really hoping that it'll flower before winter so we can actually see what it is!

So here's what I know:
- All green
- From Mexico
-about fence height
-Dies back in a zone 9 winter

Where do you live? Post it in your profile so it shows beside your post where everyone can see it. You say zone 9... 9a I assume, since it dies all the way back in winter. and, yes... pics will help a lot.

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.

When you get back to your PC, why not post in Member Introductions so we can all welcome you with your newly edited profile that shows where you live? For some reason it seems that peeps who post there tend to stay with the group. Perhaps they feel the love?

Three years later, it looks like I'm finally going to get a flower. Haven't officially measured it, but it'd say that its probably 12ft+.

Here's the flag leaf:

Not sure if its pushing maybe another flag leaf or hopefully the inflorescence.

It pups like crazy!

Img links do not work. Obviously the links you are using are not the img file itself.

A test you can use to check if the img will load. Open the img; Right Click on the img; Left Click, 'copy img location' in the drop down list.
Then open a new window or Tab and past the copied link into the URL bar. If the link is correct it will load up.

My bad. It was late and I wasn't thinking about privacy settings. I got them embedded fine and they were displaying for me, but not for everyone else haha. I forgot to check in an incognito window to insure the images were set to public. Alrighty, so I hope we'll get an ID now!

So far they appear to be Bluggoe/Orinoco, but post a few more photos as it develops and we can give you a 100% confirmation.

I had been thinking that as well, but aren't Orinoco supposed incredibly cold tolerant? At the very least, this thing loses all it's leaves, and at worst it used to get sent back almost to the ground in only 9b. Before starting to protect it a few years ago, it never really got higher than the fence before dying back. Meanwhile, my dwarf Brazilian barely even shows damage after the winters with no protection.

Orinoco will losses it leaves at 32 deg F. but will recover quickly. ... Basjoo losses its leaves at about 28 deg F. Freezing of the pstem depends on it thickness and how long the it is exposed to the freezing temps.
