Out of curiosity, how do you know? Is it the raised veins in the leaf or the red midrib, or something else?

I agree Basjoo, and yes both, raised veins and red midrib, I got two of these from Sandy this summer, sturdy plants, gonna put them in the ground next spring.

It's the color in the center and the texture of the leaves, kind of thinner than a regular banana, and the color of the basjoo is a little different. Besides I see them on a regular basis everyday. They are distinctive looking compared to other bananas.
