Hi all,

I managed to get a sucker of this banana but am unsure of its ID.

It seems to be some sort of plantain. Maybe a Ele Ele black.

Here is a photo or 2.

I agee that it could be an Ele Ele with that much color on the petioles.

If you are in Oz, where import of bananas is very strictly regulated, it is almost certainly "Pacific Plantain", which is in the same subgroup as Ele Ele and very similar to it.

It's hard to say; the foliage of the plant with its dark coloring resembles Pacific Plantain, but the fruit is a bit too elongated to be it (although this could be because it is still immature and hasn't filled out). Pacific Plantain fruit is very stubby, short and fat - not quite so long.

I dislike the fruit of PP. It doesn't taste the same as many of the African horn plantains

The Popoulu types are what you described in terms of fruit shape. The Maoli types, such as Ele Ele are much longer in relation to their width.

Also looks exactly like the Pacific Plantain in the link I posted above and which we know is available in Australia, and is also a Maoli type, like Ele Ele. Could be the same thing, I don't know.
