Help ID my Canadian Banana Plants - Basjoo? Cavendish?

1. This one was labelled as Hardy Banana

2. This one was labelled as Musa Dwarf Banana
(tag even indicated this would produce fruit, but I am skeptical)

These were bought at different times from different garden centers with very different labels, but look like they could be the same plant. Please help me ID what type these are.

Re: Help ID my Canadian Banana Plants - Basjoo? Cavendish?

I don't think I have ever seen a banana for sale in Canada (at least in my limited part of Canada) labeled as 'Hardy Banana' that wasn't basjoo. It certainly looks likely that it is in fact just that, although I will defer to others with more experience.

I don't have an opinion on the other one, except to agree they look similar. I have purchased a couple of young, generically labeled banana plants from big box garden centers and invariably their adult character comes out with some growing time. In other words, it may be too early to tell what it is, although again, I am no banana expert, especially when it comes to ID'ing plants.

First plant I think is a Basjoo, by the red up the center. The second may be the same, but I have Orinoco's with red up the center on early leave's. Time will tell, the second one may lose the red.

They are both Musa basjoo. Hardy, but do not make edible fruit.
