Goldfinger?

Re: Goldfinger?
To me the fruit on your healthy looking plant looks to short to be GF but I could well be wrong!

Re: Goldfinger?
Comparing with my Goldfinger flower pics I say they are Goldfinger.

Re: Goldfinger?
Do you have male flowers yet? If so, are they persistent or do they drop from the stem?

Re: Goldfinger?
My sweetheart flowered at 15 feet and had a massive psuedostem, way bigger than any goldfinger I've ever seen.

Re: Goldfinger?
american goldfinger doesn't have persistent male flowers, they fall off 2-3 days after opening.

Re: Goldfinger?
Looks just like my goldfinger. Mine will sometimes hold male flowers. Never totally though. Seems like they fall off for a few weeks then hold a few weeks then go back to dropping. So I could see some variation in the male flowers.

Re: Goldfinger?
I should have said "my american goldfinger" doesn't hold male flowers. Can you describe the flavor in more detail?

This is the first home grown fruit that I have tasted from what I suspect is a cavendish type - mainly because of the persistent male flowers, an the open petiole and not much cold hardiness. I found it to be the most similar to a store bought Chiquita that I have eaten. But better and not as bland. The peels were thin (like a namwah) and separated easily from the fruit. Despite being fully ripe with the peels splitting, the meat was firm and not mushy or juicy like a namwah. I asked my wife for her description and she said it tasted like a store bought that hasn't turned fully yellow. The bunch ripened very quickly once cut from the pstem. The fingers were separating from the bunch and the skins splitting. So, I gave away several hands and all recipients told me they were excellent and better than store bought. whatever it is, it is definitely a keeper.. |
Re: Goldfinger?
Out of everything I've tasted (Orinoco goldfinger Brazilian manzano Nino namwa nay poovan cav VC)haven't tried a lot.
Goldfinger has been the best. Mine had a strong banana flavor, perfect creamy texture, and were super juicy. Peels easy but does fall off the bunch when ripe. Made a banana pudding out of some. Wow I can't imagine a better banana for a banana pudding. They don't brown and they taste just as fresh in leftovers the next day. I could eat them everyday. |
