Re: Dwarf Orinoco or Drarf Brazillian ?
Dwarf Orinoco is smaller (5-6ft) and hardier, but produces an inferior fruit to Dwarf Brazillian in my opinion. Orinoco can be eaten raw when fully ripe, but they also lend themselves nicely as a cooking banana because they are starchier, and less sweet even when fully ripe (when I tried them). Dwarf Brazillian is less cold hardy (but some people have successfully grown them both in the same type of colder climates), taller (I've seen generally 7-8ft) and produces a very pleasant sweet dessert banana. They would both do fine in zone 9 I would think, and definetly anything higher.

Pitangadiego,
Thanks for your choice of choosing a Dwf Namwah instead. Much better fruit.I will check that one out.Maybe you might have one in your banana nursery maybe down at your Farm.If so I will order one and if you could send one up to me please I will take anything and make a place for it in my backyard to add to my banana addiction(Just Kidding).Maybe I should just take a drive south and Visit Encanto sometime soon. Re: Dwarf Orinoco or Drarf Brazillian ?
Mitch,
Sold my last one last week, to my dentist (long story). Even so, you should come for a visit. Modenacart Fruit-wise, not much that I can tell. The GN is a little taller by a foot or so, and a lot stouter, but still gets quite droopy when the fruit begins to ripen. Didn't know how different it would be when I got it. I'll try most any banana at east once. |
Re: Dwarf Orinoco or Drarf Brazillian ?
Thanks for the information. The one you sold me is about three feet tall right now. Its doing really well since I had to cut it all the way back to the corm to pack it in my suitcase. I will find out this winter if it stores well.
