Dwarf maoli, sweetheart, goldfinger, dwarf brazil, blue java
These all look correct?
Dwarf maoli is a really big sturdy plant. Doesn't seem that dwarfish Sweetheart, nice big plump bananas, looking nice. They are about the size of store fruit. Goldfinger Dwarf brazil is a really small plant and rack. Bluejava Last edited by Spaugh : 08-04-2020 at 02:52 PM. |

Blue java looks right but that is definitely it Goldfinger. What are the heights of each plant?

Also which plants need propping and which ones don’t? Also a photo of the whole plant would help.

Re: Dwarf maoli, sweetheart, goldfinger, dwarf brazil, blue java
I'm pretty sure these are what they are supposed to be. I think they all came from Larry and still had tags on them from agristarts. The brazil one may have been from an online nursery.
The maoli is maybe 8ft, the goldfiner 6.5ft, sweetheart 7ft, brazil 5.5ft, bluejava 7 or 8ft. The only one leaning over much is the blue java. I'm 5-9 so you can get an idea, I'm holding the camera at head level. |

Re: Dwarf maoli, sweetheart, goldfinger, dwarf brazil, blue java
Bill, none are propped, the blue java is leaning hard. The sweet heart and goldfiner are leaning a little, dwarf brazil quite a bit. Maoli is standing straight up. Never seen such an erect tree.
I'll photo the plants next time I go out there. My dwarf red tree is getting huge now, not dwarf at all. That one came from an online nursery and may be something else. |

Re: Dwarf maoli, sweetheart, goldfinger, dwarf brazil, blue java
Yes I believe it was sold as dwarf brazilian. The fruit comes out sideways. The tree is kind of a runt, some of these weren't getting much attention, just stuck out on a hillside with a sprinkler on a timer and that's it.

Not sure about the goldfinger flower, I may have removed the flower on that plant but will save it next time theres more stems that will flower soon.

Re: Dwarf maoli, sweetheart, goldfinger, dwarf brazil, blue java
The picture of your Sweet heart and your goldfinger look the same. Maybe it is just the lighting, but your dwarf Brazilian looks like blue java. Dwarf Brazilian has a messy rachis.

I think the sweetheart bunch you pictured is the same bunch as the goldfinger bunch you pictured.

Re: Dwarf maoli, sweetheart, goldfinger, dwarf brazil, blue java
All of these except the blue java are tissue cultures from dealers selling agristarts. The dwarf brazil isnt a blue java but who knows what it is. Ill check where it came from I keep track of where I buy them.
Will also take more pics of the goldfinger and sweethearts. Thanks! |

Re: Dwarf maoli, sweetheart, goldfinger, dwarf brazil, blue java
Your plants get a lot more heat then mine so they could look very different. That said your goldfinger isn’t. The fruit on goldfinger has some what pointed ends. Yours are round. Don’t be surprised. Tissue culture grown bananas get mixed up all the time.

Re: Dwarf maoli, sweetheart, goldfinger, dwarf brazil, blue java
I went to take more pics last night, the pics I posted before are correct. The sweetheart and gold finger look similar but the sweethearts are larger.
Found my blue java snapped off too... Sad, they werent quite ready. Oh well, it looks like some of them will yellow up. Should stake them I guess. Im really not much into staking or growing plants that need extra attention. Just got this because of all the hype. |

I would leave it as it Is. It will ripen better than if you cut it off.

Re: Dwarf maoli, sweetheart, goldfinger, dwarf brazil, blue java
Too late, I already removed it. Theres too many animals around to leave it, if my chickens dont go for it, coyotes or rabbits, squirrels, crows, mice, rats or something else would.
