Do I have a real Mekong Giant?
I ordered a Mekong giant, and when I recieved it, the label says Mekong Giant musa itinerans, is this considered a real Mekong giant, does it have the same growth pattern and characteristics? Just asking because I have seen Mekong giant on the net with different names.:08:

'Mekong Giant' is nothing more than Musa itinerans var. itinerans. Still not sure how Brian managed to get a patent on a Musa species, but whatever.

Re: Do I have a real Mekong Giant?
Is there really a patent on it? And does that also apply in Europe?
If you ask me, you can't patent wild species,.....but on the other hand,....Monsanto seems to do stuff like that with broccoli,.... :( Kind regards, Remko. |
Re: Do I have a real Mekong Giant?
Patenting a wild species? That's absolutely absurd. Even though I don't agree with what Monsanto is doing either, at least they are engineering the plants themselves first and THEN patenting them.

Re: Do I have a real Mekong Giant?
Absurd I agree,.....but it's true,.....read this:
European Patent Office grants Monsanto patent on natural broccoli seeds, florets Kind regards, Remko. |
Re: Do I have a real Mekong Giant?
Okay now that's just ridiculous. And I thought these crooks were kicked out of many European countries. They should rightfully be.

Re: Do I have a real Mekong Giant?
They need to be.

Re: Do I have a real Mekong Giant?
A mekong giant has dark green leaves and when the leaves get bigger they get a dark red tint underneath and the stem becomes red over time. you will know for sure once you get your first pup.... my first pup was a foot away from the mother plant and they just keep popping up farther and farther... enjoy your plant!
