Okay, it's the end of summer. I was hoping there would be plenty of growth from this fella (considering the corm was supposedly a "3 gallon mother")… but, as you can see, it only grew a couple feet this entire season. I chopped the bottom leaves off right before I took the pictures. Behind it is the Mekong Giant I bought not long ago (and it's outgrown this mystery 'nanner already). Still no idea what they sold me.

It's still not obvious what it is. I'm afraid this one is likely to be one that can't be identified until it blooms.

I think a bloom in Rochester is not going to happen. Lol. At least it's been narrowed down to a couple of possibilities. The best thing for me to do is dig it up and put it up for trade. The problem is, someone who would be interested in a banana like this (IF they'd be interested in an unknown specie) will likely not have a cold hardy one to trade for.

what were you trying to order or what did they say it was? at least maybe someone can help determine if you have a chance of having what you ordered. It's not basjoo, mekong giant, bordelon, zebrina, or any ensete for sure. It doesn't look like any kind of cavendish type either to me. No blotches on any smaller leaves. Were there blotches on the leaves when they first came out? the younger leaves....Also not chinese yellow...not ae ae...lol...

Hi Sandy.

The younger leaves (shown on the first page of this thread here) had a few very faint blotches close to the petiole early on.

What I ordered was supposed to be "3-gal mother corm Musa Basjoo". I got suspicious as soon as I saw the corms they sent. They were shaped like large yams with a small stub where the stem should grow. To me, all the basjoo corms I've ever dug up or seen have never been like that, and on a "3 gallon corm" the stem would've definitely been larger in diameter for a basjoo.

Not much growth either. In fact, the Mekong Giant I bought from your store has grown about 2 feet taller than this and it was planted about a foot deeper almost 2 months after it.

The petioles look like those of Goldfinger.

Definitely not basjoo. Not hardy, be sure to dig it up soon. I looked at the other picture, it is not cavendish type, that isn't what I meant by blotches. The cavendish type blotches are more like big freckles on the leaves, not that pink color near the petiole...
so it's not dc or double mahoi, or Williams or gran nain. Looks like something from the ladyfinger, ice cream, Namwah, type group. Sorry I don't know much about those, just can tell the differences between cavendish and other types from having grown them for years. The size indicates maybe its a dwarf something or other, which might be good since youre going to have to bring it in.

You've helped more than enough by eliminating what it's not, Sandy. Thanks... Thanks Cali.
