Can you help ID this plant?
This is mat is in a neighbors yard. Any ideas on what type of banana it is?
The tree blew down in hurricane Igor so I can't update the photos as the bunch matures...sorry. Thanks.

Thanks Gabe. Is that because Orinoco is one of the only bananas with angular fruit? Or are there other characteristics to look for?

I don't think I've ever seen a banana which did not have angular ovaries when immature. Being round or angled (to any degree) is only observable at full maturity, and your bunch is still quite young.
Some traits which when all present tend to point to this group of cultivars (the Bluggoes): a long green peduncle with a clearly visible empty node midway between the top of the pseudostem and the first hand, few hands on an otherwise healthy looking bunch, red-purple male flowers (can see one still hanging on there in the second photo), pretty much pigment-less in the leaves and pseudostem, very waxy pseudostem and petioles, petiole bases which cling to the pseudostem. Another possible characteristic of these bananas which I've been thinking about for awhile, but haven't come to a conclusion yet as to whether it is a real distinction, is that the edges of ripped sections bordered by rips on the leaves tend to curl.

I appreciate you explaining the traits/characteristics of the Orinoco, I am still trying to figure out how to identify different varieties so this helps alot. You are a wealth of knowledge!
On an aside I visited Honolulu once about 25 years ago when I was a teenager. I really enjoyed my stay on Waikiki Beach. We made a few trips to other parts of the island and its beauty still sticks in my head. You live on a lovely island, some day I hope to take my children on a vacation there. Thanks again. James
