Can anyone confirm if this is a Basjoo?
Last year I was given what looked like a Basjoo pup. It grew pretty well and the pstem mushed down to just under a foot tall over the winter(zero winter protection). This spring it came back fast but now I'm noticing red splotches under the leaves and on the midribs.
The red was not there last year and now I'm curious if its even a Basjoo. I thought it was for sure a Basjoo due to the distinct petiole wings but I've never seen or heard of one with red splotches under the leaves. Any help from you all is greatly appreciated! The pic below shows red splotching under the leaves. The lighting was bad in the evening when I was taking the pics so the only way I could show the red splotching good was to take a pic of the cigar leaf. The pic below is what is looked like last summer when it was close to the same size with zero red midribs or red splotching under the leaves.

I confirm too 100% basjoo. I have one clone that has the red and one that doesn't. It always seems more visible during spring time. It fades during summer.
