Hiya Is this a banana tree?

Hello everyone
My friend gave me this cutting from her garden and we both are unable to identify what plant it is.
It looks like a banana tree, but the trunk has me doubting this as it has zebra like green rings.
Does anyone know if this plant is indeed a banana tree????
Thanks!
Steph

Hiya Steph,
On the information you gave it doesn't sound like a banana but if you share a picture I'm sure someone here can identify it for you.
