Default Banana ID, what is it?

Hello All,

I purchased this banana as a William Hybrid. I have posted several pictures. the mother plants has a very green color with black streaks and the pups have an irredescent color to them. The pups are very tightly compacted to the mother plant. The mother plant is over 10' and the leaves are large. All the pups this plant has came up this summer.

Thank you in advance,

Andrew

If someone told you it is a Williams Hybrid, there is probably no reason to doubt it. Looks about right.

It doesnʻt look like a Williams or any type of Cavendish. Its one of those where you will have to fruit it to find out for sure.

I think I have some photos in my gallery of a supposedly flowering Williams. The guy that give me the plants said that it was a Williams. Although the plant looks a little spindally I think it was because it flowered so early in the season. My plants look alot like yours but I'm no expert. These plants are the hardiest and very lush tall growing, and pup like crazy. I can't see any difference between them visually as compared to my Orinocos, but the Williams grow and flower twice as fast as any other bananas I have, so I know there's a difference. I hope this helps.

Williams should look very different from Orinoco in basically every part of the plant. I'll try to post some pictures later.

Thank you very much!! I purchased a few bananas from this person here in Santa Barbara. A few weeks ago he was at an annual plant sale selling plants that were mislabeled. Now i'm wondering what I have. They are beautiful either way. I thought I would have to wait until I get fruit as well.

Doesn't look anything like my orinoco which have no black at all and are a very shiny green - far less wax too. Good luck with finding out what it is, as it really is a nice plant.
