I visited the Oxford Botanical gardens last week and they had a small mat of bananas labeled as Textilis.
Now the pictures I have seen of Textilis didn't look anything like the plants they have. I have loaded 3 pictures into my gallery for you to see. The psuedo stem was around 6 ft tall and a nice burgundy colour. There is also a picture of the flower. Many thanks

Looks like a Musa mannii hybrid with another Rhodochlamys something like M. ornata perhaps (with exactly what, who knows, but its definitely not the pure species). Interesting, but not M. textilis.

This is the only true M. textilis I have seen in person, everything else labled as M. textilis I have seen is usually a type of M. balbisiana. There are however many different types of M. textilis, it is a very variable species due to wide cultivation for fiber, so some of the types will look different from each other, but they still are all rather similar.
PS- please pardon the turned photos, but it seems the built in photo rotator is malfunctioning so it will have to do for now.

Thanks Gabe. I did think it looked a bit like my Mannii minus the little ruffles on the petioles.
It was a lot taller than mine too!! All the mannii I have seen are around 5ft tall and that with the leaves too. I am still going to see if they will sell me a plant ![]()

Gabe, I went back last week and borrowed a fruit from the plant. It was only small but had plenty of seed( poss 30). Planted right next door to it is Ornata Lavender ( also in flower). So that could be the X you mentioned.
Will the seeds germinate as Pure Mannii? There is a picture of them in my Gallery. They are a nice sized seed with A white bump on the eye part.
