Question Baby Bananas-Type?

I purchased some green baby bananas from an oriental supermarket today. The label says "#4234 Baby-Turbana-Columbia". Anyone know what type this is? Is it ripe at yellow? Green? The hand has 16 fruit. Thanks.

Ooo-o-o-ohh! Those were picked so green. They turn yellow when ripe. But at the stage that those were picked, they may not ripen fully and retain a corky center.

Cool Re: Baby Bananas-Type?

Howard, I bought some Bonita organic bananas ( dwarf size)that were unlabeled just said organic here and they never turned yellow ,even at maybe 3 weeks. They finally turned the color of a winter Siam Ruby leaf (puke green in medical lingo) when I ate them and were far superior to reg Chiquita etc.Let me know how yours do....thanks.

Thanks all. Very helpful info. I also have sent an e-mail to the Turbana Corp. along with a pic asking about ripeness since the hand is green. Will keep you posted.

The Niņo banana that the number 4234 refers to is simply that it is the "Baby" banana, and not necessarily the Niņo variety as we know it here in the US.

The ones that Chiquita sell that look just like that are of the variety 'Pisang Mas'.

I get those from the place in FL I order from, they label them as "apple" so I'm guessing since they look exactly the same as the ones I have recieved before, that those are manzanos that were picked a bit too early. I had to put mine in the fridge and let them get black spots to get best flavor. My wife absolutely loved them.
