any idea what type
 
can anyone tell me what kind this is i got a plant from a friend in north Carolina
who had them in the ground and brought me a plant which did not make it in my gumbo soil but i took 2 bulbs off it before i planted an put them in large pots and one has fruit now and the other one is larger with out fruit the fruit is 4 sided
my picture did not get on but if you look in my profile you can see them thanks

Show us pictures of the fruit. Not much chance of identifying it without that.

I'm trying to learn how to identify banana plants. In this case, do you believe it is Orinoco based on the shape and spacing of the fruit?

Yes, the widely splayed fingers, as well as the shape and color of the male bud, and the overall appearance of the plant. Also, it is quite common in the US.
