Me too! I'd love to find a mango orchard locally, but never seeing them for sale at the local farmers markets I doubt they exist.

I have a young Hayden Mango that is producing fruit this year, but the fruits are only about half the size they should be, so far anyway. My neighbor directly behind me has a full grown tree that produces a lot of fruit but I'm not sure what kind.

1. Coachella Valley. To avoid being shot, stay in the car and a good 50 feet away.

2. In San Diego county, you will not find orchards per say but large individual trees each bearing 1,000 to 5,000 fruits per year. Last Saturday I saw one in Fallbrook loaded with green fruits which should be ready to pick in a month.

While I still have no clue what the heck Richard is talking about I did find this.

My favorite mango - the california keitt mango - truly raw and green when ripe

Buy Keitt Mangos online, Organic Keitt Mango, California grown Keitt Mangos,

Now I know why it is so difficult to get a weapon here (legally or not). To avoid such situations. A tree worth killing for... wow.

Theft has been a problem. The groves are patroled by an infamous private company.

Yes, several of the local individual trees are harvested by Melissa's Produce and other wholesalers. The fruit is distributed mostly in the western U.S. to independent markets and specialty chains like Boney's, Bristol Farms, etc.

The news story is interesting, but the 1st and 3rd links are to ads that I could do without.
