Default where to buy in Maryland?

Hey Everyone!

I am new to growing bananas and I want to jump right in. I am looking for an ice cream or red dwarf plant. I have seen them for sale on e-bay but I would rather buy in a store. Anyone know a store that carries them in Maryland? I am in the carroll/baltimore/howard county area.

thanks for any and all help

matt

Welcome to the Org. Matt, you could call some of the local nurseries and ask them if they know WHO in the area sells Banana plants, here in N. IL. our nurseries only carry a couple of plants each year. The big box store like Home Depot and Lowe's will carry some later in the summer, usually Basjoo's, Zebrinas and Gran Nain.

I saw a Zebrina in the HD in Aspen Hill, MD the other day, along with cold hardy palms. Look for the blue pots if you want the cold hardy palms.

Welcome, Matt!

I suggest you just raid Howard's (saltydad) yard!

.....Or at least follow his tip posted above.

Welcome aboard the S.S. Banana! I hope you enjoy it here and learn a lot. It might be difficult to find those particular varieties in a store...they usually carry things like zebrina, ensete maurelii, dwarf cavendish, and I found some Siam Rubies. If you're looking for a good store online, try Green Earth (Banana Plants and Banana Trees)

Try shore blooms on Kent Island. Take first right after bridge and follow rt18 untill the circle, make the first right at the circle and see Shore Blooms on right. They got some Siam ruby's and others...great prices for good stock with pups. The one in my avatar is from there 1 month ago....25.00

Welcome aboard the S.S. Banana, Kman84 ! Would luv to help ya out but already gave all my ice-cream pups away.
If ya can't find what ya need in Howard's yard, ya might try Home Depot - though they never carry quite as much as Howie .
Oh well, gotta catch my flight to Maryland.... Later!
