When you discover other banana freaks like you actually DO exist...
Hello to all the fellow Banana Enthusiasts out there! Husband and I are avid gardeners rooted in the Midwest (NW Missouri). Our obsession with growing bananas started five years ago when the house behind us sold to a new and particularly nosy neighbor. We started picking up two or three nameless/tagless banana plants at our local nursery to use in large pots around the deck as a privacy screen. When the weather turns cold, we shed a few tears as we chop up the bananas and add them to the compost. This year however, our obsession has turned into an addiction so we've potted them up into even larger pots and brought them indoors! Crossing our fingers that these two will survive until next spring when we plan to get MORE bananas and try our hand at planting some straight into the ground. (Take that nosy neighbor!) Since we're new to bananas we've got lots of questions and we're excited to utilize this community as an enabler when it comes to feeding our banana addiction!!!! |

You will find many members who winter over Bananas in cooler zones here, and many ways to do it.
