SW Houston Newbie

I'm new to Bananas, but today has brought a surprise.
I'm very excited. I planted my Raja Puri Banana last Spring. I covered the "trunk" with a frost blanket over the winter. It sprouted this Spring, and has done well. I was counting the pups and ran across this flower. I hope nothing happens to it until the bananas get ripe.

On a bit of a side note: I bought and planted a California Gold and a Texas Star at the same time. I did not wrap the "trunk" during our mind winter, as they are both supposed to handle our, zone 9a SW Houston, winters. But they both froze to the ground. They are regrowing with pups this year. I will be sure to frost blanket them next year. So much for care free bananas.

I'm happy to have found this place. I have much to learn.

Welcome, Joycelyn!

How cold did you get down to this winter? I'm in zone 9b but had a colder than normal winter and got down to 22F (35 total frosty mornings). Both my California Gold and Texas Star survived fine and one California Gold is now flowering.
