Praying Hands
Hello This Is My Very First Thread On Any Blog Or What Ever You Call It! My Question Is I Have A Praying Hands Banana Plant I Have Been Growing For About 4-6 Months Now In Central Illinois In A Large Pot! It Has 7 Leaves On It Now But The Bottom 3 Are Turning Brown Rapidly Also How Big Of A Pot Should It Be In?

Do you have any pictures? The bottom leaves seem to just do that unless you have something else that might be wrong in which case between photos and information on how you're caring for your nana.... someone will know exactly what's wrong here. Deb |

Happy to have a fellow Illini here. Your praying hands is ok. It is probably seeking some nitrogen from the lower leaves. But some browning is normal on the lower leaves. How much and how often have you fertilized it? What is the N-P-K composition of your fertilizer?
As for the pot size, use the biggest one you can move inside for the winter. The roots don't go too deep, but they will grow out fairly wide - up to about 10 feet. 1/2 a wine barrel would be ideal, but you will need something to move it in the fall. Good luck! |
