Plant producing bananas
 

The plant is producing flowers and small bananas - here in Northern Virginia.
Clearly weather will be turning cold in next few weeks.
Any chance these will have had enough time to form usable fruit?
New at this.
Plants are in second year.
Raised for the awesome foliage - had no idea they would flower or form fruit!

Welcome to the banana Bunch. ... What type of Banana do you have? ... The 'short cycle' type bananas take 3 to 4 months to mature & ripen. Regular type bananas take 4 to 6 months to mature & ripen. So to answer you question without knowing the type: NOPE. ... Please post a picture of your banana plant. It's likely you have an ornamental type anyway & not usable for eating.

Sadly, bananas will flower and TRY to make fruit late in the season.
That is when they do this ....after a long hot summer.

Look at your plant .....like a tomato plant full of green tomatoes at the end of the season,they just will not ripen.

However your season(as well as mine) is too short for the plant to fully produce mature fruit.

I have flowers and bananas(small inedible) on a few of my plants and they will not mature because the season is over and if I wanted to continue to try to RIPEN the fruit......it is not worth the effort and cost.

On the bright side......Welcome, and have a good time cruising the forums.
