Re: pineapple
The tried and successful method is to take the tissue culture course at a nearby college that offers a Horticulture degree -- along with any pre-requisites they require. Then, noticing the success rate at the college with real equipment you spend several thousand dollars for equipment and supplies. And further, if it's not going to be a hobby you also study the agro-economics tissue culture business; i.e., you need to turn over 1,000 cultures a month to meet expenses.
Alternately of course, you can just buy the TC's from one of many suppliers.

Re: pineapple
I totally agree Richard. It's truly amazing how advanced the professional setups are. It would take years of study at a school to really get a good grasp of things. And prices are outrageous. The better filters I was looking at were $200+ just for the filter!!!
Nah nothing serious here!! Just gives me something to play with over the winter. If I get a 10% success rate I will be extremely happy!! I'm going to setup a home style HEPA filter as a pre filter then a lab grade HEPA filter for the main filter. Have a small hole in the front of the cabinet that air will be forced out of at all times from the filters. I will insert hands and arms only to work through that hole. And will be spraying 100% alcohol over all surfaces. It's the best cheap setup I could come up with anyway. I'm open to any critiques and suggestions!!

Re: pineapple
Richards right to an extent if you looking to make bucks probably not a good idea but if your like me and love knowledge for its on sake and just doing it as a hobby then go for it
I have made two attempts with a little success and a lot of fun and satisfaction both times the issues were with getting proper media prepared as in right amount of growth hormones cultures grew callus tissue but failed to shoot contamination was a minor problem out of 20 baby food jars each try I lost 9 to contamination the first time and 7the second I was using an old aquarium on its side sprayed down with alcohol before use a training course would defiantly be a help but not absolutely necessary you can find all you need on line check out Gabes home lab and consider he is a pro that has done this for a living New homemade hood it dont got to be complicated! actually it might be better to try something easy first like carrot or cabbage naners are more difficult Last edited by obdiah : 09-23-2017 at 08:05 PM. |

Pineapple tissue culturing might be interesting but once you have some pineapple plants going they multiply naturally via slips and suckers like weeds. I have extra Sugarloaf Pineapple plants available if interested. |

Re: pineapple
Richard,
I've been doing Plant tissue culture for 2 years now, but mostly dealing with Banana, however I have been trying to grow pineapple in my small lab, I can't get passed infections, but am still trying to work around that,But I do have ex-plants which are 2 months old uninfected, they are simply not proliferating rather they are rooting and I don't want them to root at the moment I want some callus formation, but despite keeping them in 16hrs darkness and 8 hrs of light, callus isn't coming through.
