Hello,

I am originally from Barbados and have recently bought home in Palm Beach County close to the sea (about 20 blocks).

Found this website as I have been researching the types of fruit trees that can grow in my area. I think I might be a little crazy cause I am planning to have bananas, pineapples, mangos, blue berries, locquats, key lime, Shadock, lemon, oragnge and apples! We will see how successful I am. Doing it all organically too.

Just got some blue berries plants yesterday from a company called Florida Hill nursery....they are tiny and slightly damaged. Won't recommend anyone to buy from them.

I also got 4 different types of pineapple plants from Wellspring nursery yesterday too, tiny but for $4 what do you expect, planted them and guess I'll wait 2 years to see which I like best.

In Barbados we have a banana tree they call a "fig", it is produces a short, plump bananas that ripens really quick once picked and you have to wait till the skin splits before eating. Anyone know of this type of banana?

We also have a mango called an Imperial, it is super large, some can get close to the size of an american football. They are not stringy and taste much different than any mango I've tried in South Florida.

If anyone has knowledge of the Barbados "fig" and Imperial Mango please contact me.

on the blueberry,in a pot or in the ground??florida soil no where near acidic enough..amendment will be necessary..the large mango here is more like to be called a Kent,i have one tree,sometimes 3 pounds each,need to be extra ripe..florida hills does mostly tissue culture plants,i have used them,hit and miss on quality,but always seem to grow with extra care on my end..

I've put them in large pots, one bush to pot. The soil mix is organic potting soil, peat moss and pine bark. Read that pine bark will give it the natural acid the plants needs. Also used used natural eucalyptus mulch.
