A newbie with a tree problem :-(
Hello everyone.
I am new to banana growing in SW Florida. We had a rainstorm last night that brought down my one tree that had a nice clump of bananas on it. I read through earlier posts and it seems the best thing is to leave the tree as is? Should I get the clump of bananas off the ground though? Last edited by Kingstonchick : 11-24-2019 at 01:35 PM. |

Re: A newbie with a tree problem :-(
You could try to prop it up off of the ground. However, this might do more damage to it.

Re: A newbie with a tree problem :-(
Your picture makes it look like the trunk bent over about halfway up. I would grab 2 poles about 8 to 10' long, tie them together loosely about 6" from the top end, and support the trunk near the bunch, sorta like an A-frame or X-brace. the bananas should ripen just fine.

Re: A newbie with a tree problem :-(
As mentioned above, you can damage the trunk - every move probably breaks a few more capillaries trying to get water and nutrients up from the roots. I doubt if anyone knwows just right, the balance between protecting the banana fruit from rot and critters on the ground, and moving the trunk so much that no more water gets there. I'd just do it by eyeball, ifyou get a good sturdy prop at 2 ft, I'd call that good.
