Newbie in Banana Land

I just bought my first banana tree, a dwarf cavendish. Technically it's a Father's Day gift for my husband, but he just likes to eat bananas, not grow them, so I will be in charge of keeping it alive. I am hoping I succeed. I live in Southern California, and we recently got a bunch of bananas from some acquaintances who have a tree and loved the idea of having our own home-grown bananas. I really wanted a dwarf Brazilian, but they didn't have any at my local nursery.

I'd welcome any advice or tips. I plan to transplant the tree from the pot to the ground early next week--anything I should do to encourage success?

I've been reading through old threads trying to glean some knowledge--I truly appreciate the wealth of information here!

Welcome to the Bunch. ... How big is your new nana plant? Is it a 3ft or 4 ft Plant or a small 6" TC? The size matters as to how the plant is care for. A picture would be great.

Thank you for the warm welcome! It is a 3 or 4 foot plant. I have a photo of the plant and tag. I am not sure why the photos are showing sideways and don;t know how to rotate them (they appear normal on my computer). Also, pardon the ugly backdrop. The plant is a father's day gift and so I hid it from my husband in the dumping ground spot in our yard where no one goes.

I see 4 plants in that pot. The DC works well as a potted patio plant. But the pot needs to be much larger. The smaller plants can be separated/divided & repotted.

To plant in the ground, first slowly acclimate the plant to full sun or provided shading after transplanting to the ground. ... I suggest choosing a location that would provide afternoon shading from the hot sun. .... 2 reasons banana plant leaves fold down are lack of water or radiant heat of the hot sun. Misting will help cool & water the plant.
