![]() Hello, I just joined this forum and I am new to bananas. I have 1 x Lady Finger plant which has a new bunch on now. I have some questions: 1. Do I cut off the bell or not? 2. When should I put a bag over them as we do get bats and possums and birds who ate a lot of my very first bunch. 3. Finally, I am totally confused about desuckering, do I remove them all, leave one? Please excuse my ignorance but I am very new but very keen! I also have 5 newly planted New Guinea Mons or so I am told but cannot find this variety online at all. Thanks, John

![]() Hello & Welcome.. On desuckering the more you get rid of the more you'll get but its worth the trouble. I'd only keep a couple, a couple sword pups. :^)

![]() I would say desuckering is a matter of choice. You don't have to whack them, it's more of a question like, do you want them. You can look at them as free plants and let them grow if you have the room, cut and move them somewhere else in your yard (if they are in the ground) give them to friends or trash them. Whether you whack some or all it's whatever you decide.
