Re: New member here!
Hi, Maybe I am back? Haven't posted in a long time. I live in Phoenix & the last 2 summers in July..something has attacked my banana plants wiping them out in a couple weeks? In full healthy growth, then a brown spot or two on the stalk or maybe leaf stem. Then the plant stops growing & the stalk dies. Leaves never wilts, just stalk or stem damage. Fungus sprays, insecticides ...nothing helped. And it isn't our extreme of weather 28 degrees some nights in winter to over 116 in summer as the plants grow vigorous until this happens. The only solution that seems to work is one I use on cactus plants with mealy bug.....spraying with alcohol! I cut out the bad areas on the banana plants...spray heavy with alcohol...the area dries out...what ever is attacking dies...the alcohol dries fast enough...so no damage to plant...no residue. Alcohol kills most any insect it comes in contact with...almost all bacteria are killed, etc. So far since last fall, it has been working well. It is has stopped all further attacks.

Both are a smaller and manageable size and you might get them to flower.:) Check out Youtube also using those plant names as keywords, usually there is something that you can take from there to help in your decision. Most of your big box stores in your area carry some sort of banana plant, however the plants they have might not fit your criteria. .Musa Velutina - Bananas Wiki This link might help also ......Sometimes you can find real gems here. I have. south florida farm & garden "bananas" - craigslist |
