![]() Hello Banana Folks,
I am introducing myself. I am a fruit lover north of the San Fran Bay. I have been a gardener for 30 years and have had a very small urban tree nursery for 10. I am expanding the nursery from mostly larger native trees, oaks to include edibles such as bananas and other fruits so I am here to learn and here to find sources for producing varieties for my climate. I get frost and temps down to 27 ish. I heard that Monthan would be good. I hope to get some soon. The unknown variety I have been growing is never going to give me anything to eat! |

![]() Welcome TB! I have Monthan in it's first year. It was listed as one of the most heat and drought tolerant bananas, but since it hasn't been through a winter here, the jury is still out. We can get down to the high 20's here in Las Vegas (zone 9) I understand, so it should be a good test for you to follow. If all goes well, I will have some explant material next year to tissue culture. So far, so good.
Good luck with your expansion plans. Do you grow any bonsai material? I also collect bonsai trees, though they don't do well here in summer, so they need to be kept in shade and out of the heat. Already fried 4 of my favorites. |
