Hello Bananas Forum,
Thanks for having me aboard. I live in Nashville, TN in Zone 7, and have been working with bananas for ten years now. I started with a variety that needs to be dug up, never got the ID on that one but I still keep digging up the descendants. Musella Lasiocarpa is a recent addition, and have a front yard full of Musa Basjoo, it does really well here, I think partly because of the climate, and I have been feeding its soils for many years with lots of sand, mulches and occasional lime. I have been letting the Basjoos freeze back every year, but may try to insulate some of the nanners this fall. I trim any leaf that goes horizontal, so I can see through the nanners and they get the maximum height, as I am in a hollow with limited sunlight. I look forward to getting acquainted with other nanner people and sharing experiences. I also look forward to sourcing and purchasing cold hardy nanners, and I am very interested in the Musa Itenerans var. Xishuangbannaensis and especially its cold hardiness for my zone. In other words, if it will keep coming back, I definitely have a job for this banana, to compete with Johnson Grass...Cheers!! Dan |

Re: New Member
Thanks, Jarred! Bananas are just plain fun to be around, and there is always something to learn about them. No doubt I will have a few questions...

A very warm welcome to you, Dan, from the beautiful state of Maryland. When you can, post some pics of your garden in your gallery.
