Hello Bananas Forum,
Thanks for having me aboard. I live in Nashville, TN in Zone 7, and have been working with bananas for ten years now. I started with a variety that needs to be dug up, never got the ID on that one but I still keep digging up the descendants. Musella Lasiocarpa is a recent addition, and have a front yard full of Musa Basjoo, it does really well here, I think partly because of the climate, and I have been feeding its soils for many years with lots of sand, mulches and occasional lime. I have been letting the Basjoos freeze back every year, but may try to insulate some of the nanners this fall. I trim any leaf that goes horizontal, so I can see through the nanners and they get the maximum height, as I am in a hollow with limited sunlight. I look forward to getting acquainted with other nanner people and sharing experiences. I also look forward to sourcing and purchasing cold hardy nanners, and I am very interested in the Musa Itenerans var. Xishuangbannaensis and especially its cold hardiness for my zone. In other words, if it will keep coming back, I definitely have a job for this banana, to compete with Johnson Grass...Cheers!! Dan

Thanks, Jarred! Bananas are just plain fun to be around, and there is always something to learn about them. No doubt I will have a few questions...

A very warm welcome to you, Dan, from the beautiful state of Maryland. When you can, post some pics of your garden in your gallery.
