![]() Yeah, growing traveler's tree outside is a no-go for me as well. I am in zone 6 now but I'm from Iowa, which is zone 5 or lower. Hopefully I'll have tall ceilings in my house in a few years LOL.

![]() Thanks, Jack! A lot of our people love the combination of frost, snow and sun (aka Siberian High). Honestly, I can't quite appreciate that.

![]() Me neither, I'm seriously thinking about going away from Europe. Not only because of the climate though.

![]() No, no it doesn't sound nice enough for me to move. There are other possibilities. Much more appealing.

![]() Here are some pics of what I'm trying here. I've made a germination box, it's heated with x-mas lights and a heating pad. When the sun is out, I switch it off, because it easily reaches 40C (104F) inside. I'm propagating some palms in there, and nanas as well.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And here are some nanas - SDC's, as it's hard to get some others here. Separated them from two mother plants. ![]() |

![]() Very nice idea. If you don't want to bother with manual switches, you could use a small photodiode, control circuit, some 1€ processor and a little bit of programming and when the sun comes out, the inner heating system will switch off automatically. One more advice. I noticed, that if you lower the temps during the night (or circa 12 hours) to maybe 25°C and then raise the temperature back during the day, the seeds will germinate much more easily, it's like simulating day/night conditions.
Do you study on some sort of technical university?

I thought about installing a thermostat in there that will switch off the pad and the lights when the temp is above 35C, but your photodiode idea is sweet! As for temperature fluctuations - I take seeds like Ravenala and Butia to a cooler place in the night, because they are said to respond well to a temperature changes. But ensete, areca and wodyetia seeds stay in the propagator all the time - guess, they don't need fluctuations. Correct me if I'm wrong ![]() Thanks! |
