Welcome aboard jimka. You've found a great site full of good growers and people in general. I'm sure once people get to know you you'll have no problems trading for plants and cuttings. If you've been gardening as long as you have I'd love to hear lots more about your growing. I don't think I've been to Lafyette but I've been to Avery Island( have you visited the jungle gardens there?) so I do love your neck of the woods. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome, jimka. I spent most of a week working on a special assignment there in Lafayette in August 1988. The folks there were very friendly and I had a good time even though I had only learned five hours before getting there that I was assigned to the two week job (and I had just flown earlier that day to southern California and packed only enough clothes for 4 days!). I got a kick out of the folks there, they talked about how high home prices were in Alexandria, our next stop. Something like a 1,500 sf home would cost $60,000 while one could be had there for only $38,000. Obviously, we were used to paying just a little more than that here in Calif.

I don't remember seeing any bananas being grown around there when I was visiting and would probably have noticed if they had fruit on them.

Hope you enjoy visiting the forum often!

Best wishes,

Harvey
