New Here

Hi All
Not really a banana grower as I'm from Manitoba, Canada. I don't think there are many bananas that will grow in -40 degree temps. But I did go out and buy some banana seeds (Thompson & Morgan) 5 for $3.69 and 2 of them are growing so far! I'm real excited about this. This is the first year I decided to try to grow anything from seed and I'm happy with the outcome so far. I have 150 daylily plants and numerous small plants growing beside the bananas. I'll keep reading some of the posts and I'm sure I'll have questions later.

Welcome Kathy, if you've gotten a few seeds to sprout out of only 1 package you're doing better than a lot of us"experienced" growers. Let's hear more about them.

Welcome to the site! I'm sure you'll get plenty of help with any questions you have. The members here area wealth of helpful information! As for growing bananas in your area, I'm sure the summer will be just fine. You'll just have to do like the rest of us 'less fortunate' individuals who live in cold places and either keep them in pots, or plant them during the summer and dig them up to bring inside during the winter months. Enjoy the site!

Welcome aboard, Kathy! Manitoba isn't a death sentence for growing bananas. I used to do it north of Fort McMurray. You just have to keep them potted up.
