Said "Welcome to Bananas" 0 Times | New here! Hi everyone! I've just found this forum after looking on google for tips on how to repot Musa Basjoo. It's really cool to find others who are into growing bananas too! I've always wanted to grow Cavendishii to get real fruit but due to the cost of a heated greenhouse in the Uk where I live I haven't done so. I once worked at Birmingham Botanical Gardens in their tropical houses there which was a dream come true, had all the jungle stuff you can imagine! It was horticultural work experience for a course I was doing...then due to arthritis had to stop training for garden design. Ah well, I have a great south facing patio and a deck's going in this summer, woo hoo! Can't wait for that, have been planning what container grown stuff I can put in. Have just purchased two Musa Basjoo and wondering where best to site them as only grown them indoors before. If I put them in the ground which I think they will like best then that means putting them in a north facing part of my garden in mostly shade all day. Or the other alternative is to keep them in their pots in one of two corners in full sun on my patio. So far they are liking that. What do you think? I read somewhere that their leaves will stay greener if they are in more shade, and I just love banana leaves. Just remembered one day I was given a machete type knife and asked to cut down one of the large Cavendishii at my old work...wow, that felt brutal at the time as it was a stunning huge thing..but of course they can grow so fast. That was many years ago now and have always wanted to do something jungle like in my UK garden. Any tips on growing basjoo will be very appreciated! |
