What an awesome source of info on Bananas. I've got three active blooms and was looking for some pest insight and it led me to this site. Currenty blooming; Namwah (dwarf I think), Ice cream (saw pictures of different props, time to build one for this tall monster) and just harvested Sweetheart, well it fell on my wife's garden so it got harvested. The rope tied off to a fence didn't work as planned. I like the PVC designs!!!
So on to the question placed in the wrong thread - whiteflies. Can you treat like a palm without affecting the fruit? I'll keep ignoring the situation until harvest as it required a soil drench. no real effects besides some sooty mold on a leaf here and there, nothing a little pruning can't solve? Thanks again and looking forward to all the available information. Howiefla |

Re: New to forum
welcome ..I have been controlling the white flies here with soap,a little de earth and baking soda..i spray twice a week at night to see them better..systemic will make fruit unedible..it goes thru the whole plant..palm and trees ok but not nanners..the problem I have is that no else around where I live sprays for them so I spray to just keep them off and from coming back..so far so good...I am just south of Clearwater beach and the problem here is pretty bad..infestation will eventually kill off a nanner, the black mold will get real bad if you let it..

Re: New to forum
Sorry a little late with the welcome!
I'm guessing you are from Florida. Where? I'm in Pensacola, FL. You'll get all your questions answered here as long as you ask!
