Hi,

Just found this site. I'm currently sitting in a foot cast (boot now) since january, so i've been garden dreaming for a long time now! Live in MN just outside the twin cities.

Really like to bring the south to the north! and like to push the envelope with our plants. I have a nice cactus garden going and always looking for more of those, and now want to expand to bananas, bamboo and palms!

So now i'm looking for sources for MUSA BASJOO, this site seems promising, at least for some direction for that.

Hey Churchhaus, you will find lots of company here for zone bending. We have a lot of members at your latittude and higher -all growing bananas. Welcome to bananas!

There are a lot of sources for M. Basjoo. eBay is one of them, though you might need to become more familiar with the Sellers to be more or less assured that they are reliable, before you order.

Welcome Churchaus!! I don't know why so many people in the north think they can grow bananas. I'm one of them too. As Chong mentioned you cant go wrong with northern tropics. You can also post in the "bananas wanted" section here. Someone always has a pup or two available. You will get all the growing advice you want here from people all over the world. Including from the resident wise guys like myself. Good luck.

just 'hobbled' away to get some tea, and you guys already responded! i think we push the plant thing for the same reason we hang the tree lites outside---winters are darn long, cold and dark!

thanks for suggestions on sites, i'll def. check them out, i am SO anxious to be out and gardening.

we live in an old church, on US Hwy 12, so we ge a LOT of 'tourists' stopping to see our gardens, and like to freak them out with things we are "not supposed" to be growing here or there!

welcome to the org. make sure if you plant basjoo outside in the winter you mulch it as high up the p- stem as you can. i did this this past winter and booya i have new greenage for about 3 weeks now. did the same for a saba i have outside and i have 2 pups already.
