New banana'er
 

Hi all. I am going to give it a go with the Naners this year. I am in TN around Nashville. We are zone 7 and I am looking for some varieties to try. If anyone has ideas and plants that would work in my zone , please let me know. I have heard about Ice Cream, Goldfinger, etc. I'm just not sure where to get them and are they the right ones for my area.. Thanks in advance!:nanadrink:

A lot of bananas can be bought as small TC or Tissue Culture plants off of sites like Ebay, etc. You might try Musa Orinoco like the Tall Orinoco Variety in this link https://subtropicalmemphis.wordpress...oung-district/
I have Tall Orinoco and I am very happy with its toughness. They are root hardy in zone 7b, but I am going to try mine outdoors here in zone 7a with heavy mulching next year.

I'm in Marietta, GA. I planted blue Java, dwarf Orinoco, California gold, rajah puri, Dwarf Brazilian for cold hardiness. So far all have survived well either getting well wrapped or dug up and stored in the garage. I'm trying manzano and gold finger this year. I would be careful about making sure you get plants you can positively identify, which may be pricier...I learned the hard way planting a few inexpensive ones that turned out to be misidentified. The problem with this is that if you are seeking out specific kinds for cold hardiness like me, and then you end up with something different by mistake, you could end up wasting a lot of gardening energy on a plant that won't make it.
