Default Blind guy sustains family with bananas at Northeastern most point in US?

Thanks for reading this. We are a small family garden hoping to expand -with the use of a tropical greenhouse and solar panels- to a point in which we can sustain our family's nutrition needs and then some. We would love to eventually be able to start sharing with the community if there is ever a surplus as well. I believe it is dangerous how dependent so many people are on commercial goods that we can simply acquire ourselves through hard work. It's ridiculous how unhealthy our food in America has become and how difficult it is to maintain a healthy diet when your financial situation is not so good. After being laid off from work due to a worsening disability -I am legally blind and my eyesight grows worse and worse-I finally had enough of only being able to afford cruddy processed food for our family. The moment I realized our quality of life and health was being put on the line in order to pay our bills I came to the conclusion that no longer would I sit and take it. If I cant provide for my family because of a lack of a job, the least I could do is provide for my family by growing food from the earth. But where to start? One of our favorite things to eat is tropical fruit and after some research I fell in love with the Dwarf Cavendish Musa Banana tree and thus this is whete it has taken me. I am saving money feverently in order to buy a lamp by this winter-since I just might be the furthest North Easterly user in the United States - I will definitely need it. We have plans to grow a variety of fruits and vegetables but bananas are our primary focus. Any advice or comments are appreciated and thanks for your time learning about our family garden!!!

I have dwarf orinoco. I would gladley send you a pup of it. If you are interested let me know. I have also started raising chickens and quail. I love the fresh eggs so much better than the grocery store. I also planted a small garden this year. The food is so much better.
